Come May of next year, this is how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/marina-abramovic-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_marina-abramovic-2\" data-tag=\"marina-abramovic-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marina Abramovi\u0107<\/a>, perhaps the most well-known performance artist, will ring in her eighth decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe show \u201cMarina Abramovi\u0107: Transforming Energy\u201d will be on view at the Accademia from May 6\u2013October 19, 2026. It coincides with the 61st edition of the Venice Biennale, which opens May 9.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cTransforming Energy\u201d previously appeared at the Modern Art Museum in Shanghai in fall 2024. That show featured 150 artworks, many of which are furniture\/sculpture hybrids featuring materials like quartz, amethyst, and tourmaline.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRelated Articles<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/A-visitor-submerge-lies-in-a-tub-filled-with-dried-leaves-as-part-of-an-interactive-artwork-by-Serbi.jpeg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/A-visitor-submerge-lies-in-a-tub-filled-with-dried-leaves-as-part-of-an-interactive-artwork-by-Serbi.jpeg\" alt=\"An east asian long-haired person with red lipstick is in a gold bathtub full of leaves and wearing headphones.\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"\" width=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAbramovi\u0107 reportedly first visited the Venice Biennale with her mother, traveling from her native Serbia to the Italian city in 1960. \u201c[Venice] was so incredibly beautiful\u2014unlike anything I had ever seen,\u201d Abramovi\u0107 told <a href=\"https:\/\/news.artnet.com\/art-world\/marina-abramovic-venice-biennale-accademia-2692634\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/news.artnet.com\/art-world\/marina-abramovic-venice-biennale-accademia-2692634\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Artnet<\/a>. \u201cSince then, returning to Venice has become a tradition, and after receiving the Golden Lion in 1997, the city has always held a special place in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAt the Accademia, Abramovi\u0107\u2019s \u201ctransitory objects\u201d (a phrase the artist prefers over sculpture, \u201cbecause the\u00a0object\u00a0is not the point; the\u00a0energy\u00a0is,\u201d as she explained to <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-in-america\/features\/marina-abramovic-longevity-method-shanghai-1234736659\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-in-america\/features\/marina-abramovic-longevity-method-shanghai-1234736659\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Art in America<\/a> last year) will be installed throughout the 14th-century building among the museum\u2019s permanent collection.
