Garda\u00ed<\/a> are treating the death of a father and his young daughter in Finglas<\/a>, Dublin, as a suspected murder-suicide.<\/p>\n

The man and the five-year-old child were discovered by the child\u2019s mother at their home on Saturday evening. <\/p>\n

They have been named locally as Krzysztof Daczkowski (50) and his daughter Julia Daczkowsa. She is believed to have died by strangulation.<\/p>\n

Emergency services arrived at the home in the Heathfield estate near the Cappagh Hospital at about 8pm but were unable to revive the man and child.<\/p>\n

There was no sign of forced entry to the house or third party involvement in the deaths. <\/p>\n

Garda\u00ed believe the father, who worked as a bus driver, may have killed the child before taking his own life. Sources said the investigation is still at an early stage, however, and postmortem examinations will dictate the next steps.<\/p>\n

The bodies were removed by ambulance at noon on Sunday following the completion of an initial technical examination.<\/p>\n

The parents came to Ireland from Poland and have lived here for many years.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, garda\u00ed conducted ground searches including the front gardens of neighbouring properties.<\/p>\n

The Office of the State Pathologist<\/a> and the coroner had been notified, the Garda said in a statement, adding postmortems would be arranged. \u201cThe results of these examinations will assist garda\u00ed in determining the course of the investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

An incident room has been set up in Finglas Garda station and a senior investigating officer has been appointed to oversee the inquiry.<\/p>\n

A mother of two living in the area spoke of the \u201cdisbelief\u201d among local residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy daughter would be the same age as the little girl and we used to see her in the playground, particularly over the summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just hard to comprehend when you have kids of your own, and now you\u2019re wondering how do you even explain it to them or should you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Another male resident said he was \u201cstunned\u201d to learn of the two deaths.<\/p>\n

\u201cMyself and my wife saw a number of ambulances coming into the estate last night and we were wondering what happened,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe never could have imagined that a young girl had died so tragically. All the neighbourhood are so upset with what\u2019s happened and our hearts go out to the child\u2019s mother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sharing in that sense of shock was Sinn F\u00e9in Dublin North West TD Dessie Ellis.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeathfield is a newish estate and it\u2019s a really good area. Most of the estate are private houses and they\u2019re lovely houses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people settled in there who were originally from Finglas and other areas. It is really horrific.\u201d<\/p>\n

Social Democrats TD Rory Hearne said the community had been \u201cstunned\u201d by the \u201cdeeply tragic\u201d event.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of our thoughts are with the family of the two people and the wider community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Local Fianna F\u00e1il councillor Keith Connolly similarly spoke of the \u201cmassive shock\u201d in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe estate was built in the last 15 years, directly across from the Cappagh hospital, so it\u2019s very residential with a lot of young families.
