{"id":92269,"date":"2025-09-29T08:50:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-29T08:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/92269\/"},"modified":"2025-09-29T08:50:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T08:50:10","slug":"walmart-ceo-foresees-ai-transforming-literally-every-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/92269\/","title":{"rendered":"Walmart CEO Foresees AI Transforming &#8216;Literally Every Job&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walmart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Walmart<\/a> is reportedly preparing for artificial intelligence (AI) to transform its workforce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very clear that AI is going to change literally every job,\u201d CEO <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dougmcmillon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Doug McMillon<\/a> said last week, per a Friday (Sept. 26) Wall Street Journal <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/ai\/walmart-ceo-doug-mcmillon-ai-job-losses-dbaca3aa?mod=business_lead_pos3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">report<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The report characterized McMillon\u2019s comments, at a workforce conference at Walmart\u2019s headquarters in Arkansas, as among \u201cthe most pointed assessments\u201d so far from a major company\u2019s chief executive on the effect of AI on employment. At the conference, the CEO said some roles at Walmart will be eliminated, while others will be created.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe there\u2019s a job in the world that AI won\u2019t change, but I haven\u2019t thought of it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, Walmart executives have begun to <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2025\/moodys-to-walmart-corporate-america-bets-on-agentic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">study implications<\/a> for its workers during almost every high-level planning meeting. Company leaders say they are monitoring which job types decrease, increase and remain steady to determine where additional training and preparation can help workers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to create the opportunity for everybody to make it to the other side,\u201d McMillon said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement: Scroll to Continue<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, company officials say these changes mean the size of its staffing levels will remain more or less flat even as revenues climb.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Walmart intends to maintain its head count of around 2.1 million global workers over the next three years, though the mix of those jobs will change significantly, said <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/donnamorris2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Donna Morris<\/a>, Walmart\u2019s chief people officer, who added that it\u2019s not clear how that composition will look.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got to do our homework, and so we don\u2019t have those answers,\u201d Morris said.<\/p>\n<p>As the WSJ noted, Walmart has already <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/walmart\/2025\/walmart-embraces-ai-agents-to-optimize-consumer-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">developed chatbots<\/a>, which it calls \u201cagents,\u201d for customers, suppliers and employees, and is also tracking an expanding share of its supply chain and product trends with AI.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, PYMNTS wrote recently about the great debate surrounding AI and job losses, pointing to PYMNTS Intelligence research which revealed how large U.S. companies are increasingly dipping their toes <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/study_posts\/how-agentic-ai-went-from-zero-to-cfo-test-runs-in-90-days\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">into agentic AI<\/a>. This technology can autonomously take actions and make decisions independent of human oversight, like paying a vendor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the companies are <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2025\/ais-great-jobs-debate-requires-a-history-lesson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">keeping a tight leash<\/a> on the software, with human hands on the processes the software handles,\u201d PYMNTS added.<\/p>\n<p>In other Walmart news, PYMNTS wrote about the company\u2019s <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/retail\/2025\/amazon-walmart-tap-fall-event-spending-for-go-forward-benchmarks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">upcoming sales event<\/a> for October, happening in tandem with a similar event from rival <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Amazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmazon wants to turn rivals into customers by monetizing infrastructure.
