The death has taken place of a popular Donegal man who recently featured in an award-winning documentary.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Owen \u2018Owney\u2019 McGoldrick (94) was the subject of \u2018Echoes of an Irish Lifetime\u2019, by his niece Frances Maguire. The poignant short film follows the soft spoken Pettigo man as he\u00a0 reflects on his life as he approaches its final chapter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sadly, Owney passed away yesterday surrounded by his loving family. Late of Crilly, Tievemore, his remains are reposing at 6 Old People\u2019s Home, Pettigo, F94P086, today from 1pm until 10pm.<\/p>\n

Removal from there at 12.30 pm to St. Joseph\u2019s Chapel, Lettercran, F94Y642 for Requiem Mass at 1.00 pm with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.<\/p>\n

The documentary on Owney received an Honourable Mention at the East Village Film Festival in New York in May. The following month, it was also bestowed with awards at festivals in Italy, France, and the UK.<\/p>\n

It won \u2018Best Documentary\u2019 at the International Gold Awards, and Ms Maguire won \u2018Best First Time Director\u2019 for her efforts at the Florence Film Festival. The production also received prizes at the Paris Film Awards and The London Movie Awards.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Donegal Daily<\/strong> last June, Ms Maguire described her uncle as a \u2018very quiet man\u2019, but he said he was astonished to discover he would be appearing in front of audiences around the world.<\/p>\n

The death has occurred of Owen (Owney) McGoldrick, Crilly, Tievemore, Pettigo, Co. Donegal. Peacefully surrounded by his loving family.<\/p>\n

Beloved uncle of Mairead (Sean), Patrick (Pauline), Helena (Paddy), Brigene, Frances (Jason), Yvonne (Declan) and his many more nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Predeceased by his parents Owen and Bridget, his brother Packie John and James Joseph (Dodie), his sisters Bridget (Bidgie), Cassie and Agnes(Aggie). Sadly missed by his sister Sarah Mary and Margaret Ellen and sister in law Rosie.<\/p>\n

Reposing at 6 Old People\u2019s Home, Pettigo, Co. Donegal F94P086 today from 1pm until 10pm where you are most welcome to pay your respects. Wake will be a walk through.<\/p>\n
