It didn\u2019t take long for \u201cKPop Demon Hunters<\/a>\u201d to obliterate records and become a global phenomenon. <\/p>\n

The movie about a trio of K-pop superstars who hunt demons \u2014 including demons who shield their identity by transforming into an attractive new boy band with catchy tunes \u2014 hit Netflix three months ago and has already become the most-watched film in Netflix history, per Vanity Fair<\/a>. <\/p>\n

And then there\u2019s the soundtrack. <\/p>\n

The hit song \u201cGolden<\/a>\u201d has held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100<\/a> for six consecutive weeks<\/a> \u2014 now the longest-leading movie soundtrack of the decade as it officially surpasses the previous record set by the \u201cEncanto\u201d hit \u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk About Bruno,\u201d per Billboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In late August, a staggering four songs from the film simultaneously charted in the Billboard Hot 100<\/a> top 10 \u2014 a first for a film soundtrack, according to Variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Considering the film\u2019s popularity, it shouldn\u2019t be too surprising that \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d star May Hong received a remarkably enthusiastic welcome from a large crowd at Salt Lake City\u2019s FanX convention on Saturday. <\/p>\n

But Hong was visibly surprised and touched by the reception \u2014 a welcome so strong it made her emotional.<\/p>\n

The response to Hong attending FanX was so great that her spotlight panel took place in the Grand Ballroom \u2014 the largest venue in the Salt Palace Convention Center that seats roughly 5,000.<\/p>\n

Hong, who voices Mira in \u201cKPop Demon Hunters,\u201d was scheduled to take the stage at 5 p.m. Saturday. In the minutes leading up to the panel \u2014 which started about 10 minutes late \u2014 the Grand Ballroom felt more like a rock concert than a pop culture and comic convention as the No. 1 song \u201cGolden\u201d played over the speakers and had thousands of fans singing along.<\/p>\n

When Hong finally walked out on stage, the crowd erupted. <\/p>\n

The cheers were so loud \u2014 and so lengthy \u2014 that Hong stood on the stage seemingly in disbelief, laughing a few times and covering her face with her hands as it all washed over her. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have no words, thank you so much,\u201d she told the Salt Lake City crowd. <\/p>\n

Hong\u2019s spotlight at FanX on Saturday marked her first time doing a panel. <\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t take questions from the audience, as is the usual format, but chatted with the moderator about her career and rise to fame due to \u201cKPop Demon Hunters.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I\u2019m watching it from the outside, too, almost \u2014 except for when what just happened just happened,\u201d she said with a laugh, referring to her warm welcome at FanX.<\/p>\n

\u201cOtherwise, I\u2019m observing it as this global phenomenon as much as anyone else,\u201d she continued. \u201cThere\u2019s no way I could have possibly imagined that it would be like this. I hoped that people would receive it with love and appreciate the script. … It\u2019s just so surreal. Thank you, everyone.\u201d <\/p>\n

After this response, Hong again received another round of applause that lasted for several seconds. She then gave the fans a shoutout for adding even more meaning to this significant moment in her career.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know we\u2019re reaching these crazy records for the music and the movie … but really getting time face to face with people one on one and getting to hear their story and that it\u2019s a comfort movie for them, I just feel so humbled and privileged that I get to be a small part of something that makes people happy.\u201d <\/p>\n

May Hong shares favorite Mira scene in \u2018KPop Demon Hunters\u2019<\/p>\n

Hong praised the casting for \u201cKPop Demon Hunters,\u201d calling it \u201cso perfect, truly, where we\u2019re so our characters.\u201d <\/p>\n

The actor referenced one of her favorite scenes that takes place midway through the film, when Mira confronts Rumi in her room as she suspects her friend is keeping a secret from their group. <\/p>\n

\u201cMira and I are so aligned in that way of just like, if I feel that something needs to be aired out or talked about I am going to bring it up,\u201d Hong said. \u201cConfrontational doesn\u2019t seem like the right word because it sounds aggressive. I think it\u2019s just more about being honest with each other and honest with the people that you love and not letting anything stew. I really don\u2019t like that in my life. So I really love that scene for that reason.\u201d <\/p>\n
