{"id":9423,"date":"2025-08-19T13:30:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T13:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/9423\/"},"modified":"2025-08-19T13:30:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T13:30:09","slug":"limerick-artists-self-portrait-shortlisted-for-prestigious-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/9423\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick artist&#8217;s self-portrait shortlisted for prestigious prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.live95fm.ie\/news\/live95-news\/\" class=\"c-btn c-btn--small c-btn--secondary-fill\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        All Live95 News<br \/>\n    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/68a44da9ac279.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n                                    via AIB Portrait Prize<\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            A Limerick artist has been shortlisted for the prestigious AIB Portrait Prize for 2025.\n        <\/p>\n<p>Limerick visual artist and fine art photographer Darren Ryan was chosen for his work entitled Portrait of the Artist as a Middle Aged Man.<\/p>\n<p>The annual competition showcases contemporary portraiture from across the island of Ireland and from Irish artists living abroad.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Darren Ryan&#8217;s describes his work as a vibrant fusion of documentary realism and experimental fine art photography, unified by bold use of colour, texture, and narrative.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Each image functions as a stand-alone character study, yet together they form an energetic tapestry of human expression, cultural reference, and urban atmosphere&#8221;, he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a huge honour to show my work alongside my contemporaries, and I&#8217;m very eager to see the show in November in Dublin. I&#8217;ll keep you all posted as the competition advances&#8221;, Darren added.<\/p>\n<p>The AIB Portrait Prize aims to celebrate and encourage interest in contemporary portraiture, while raising the profile of the evolving National Portrait Collection at the National Gallery of Ireland.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of \u20ac15,000 and will be commissioned to create a work for the National Portrait Collection, for which they will be awarded a further \u20ac5,000.
