{"id":95546,"date":"2025-09-30T21:38:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T21:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/95546\/"},"modified":"2025-09-30T21:38:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T21:38:09","slug":"red-bull-and-prada-cover-brazilian-building-in-worlds-largest-ramp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/95546\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Bull and Prada cover Brazilian building in &#8220;world&#8217;s largest ramp&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Beverage company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/red-bull\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Bull<\/a> and fashion house <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/prada\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prada<\/a> covered the curved side of a building in Porto Alegre, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/brazil\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brazil<\/a>, with a huge, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/plywood\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">plywood<\/a> quarter pipe for a record-breaking descent by local skater Sandro Dias.<\/p>\n<p>The mega ramp was built for the Red Bull Building Drop event on 24 September, during which Dias dropped into the quarter pipe from multiple platforms along its 88.91-metre-tall Centro Administrativo Fernando Ferrari (CAFF) building, which contains government offices and is home to Porto Alegre&#8217;s local symphony orchestra.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2253267 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/redbull-building-drop-porto-alegre-brazil-centro-administrativo-fernando-ferrari-building-skate-ramp.jpeg\" alt=\"Brazil skate ramp\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Red Bull and Prada Linea Rossa have covered the side of a modernist government building in Brazil with a huge skateboard ramp. This photo and top photo by Fabio Piva<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The establishment was converted into the world&#8217;s largest ramp for the occasion, enabling Dias to fully utilize the edifice&#8217;s natural curvature and achieve the highest speed ever recorded in this discipline,&#8221; said Prada.<\/p>\n<p>According to Red Bull, it took a month to construct the ramp, which reaches the full height of the building and extends out beyond its edge to create a long, elevated runway.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2253281 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1759268288_459_redbull-building-drop-porto-alegre-brazil-centro-administrativo-fernando-ferrari-building-skate-ramp.jpeg\" alt=\"Redbull skate ramp\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The concrete Centro Administrativo Fernando Ferrari building has long been eyed by the local skateboarding community, according to Red Bull. Photo by Joerg Mitter<\/p>\n<p>The ramp was made of plywood panels typical of skate ramps and was attached to the building via a steel structure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Crafted from plywood panels, the ramp overlays the structure&#8217;s weathered concrete, which had become too cracked and unsafe for riding,&#8221; said Red Bull.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2253276 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1759268288_205_redbull-building-drop-porto-alegre-brazil-centro-administrativo-fernando-ferrari-building-skate-ramp.jpeg\" alt=\"Brazil skate ramp\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Platforms were installed along its length for skateboarder Sandro Dias to drop in from. Photo by Marcelo Maragni<\/p>\n<p>Completed in 1987, the building&#8217;s construction was part of a larger government initiative, with its design credited to &#8220;a team of five architects from the then State Department of Public Works&#8221;, <a href=\"https:\/\/caff.rs.gov.br\/historia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to the building&#8217;s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reaching 22 storeys, it comprises two identical, mirrored volumes that are conjoined at the centre. Photo by Marcelo Maragni<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This temporary addition not only preserves the building&#8217;s iconic exterior but also creates the perfect smooth surface for Dias to take on his jaw-dropping descent from top to bottom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Blue wedge-shaped platforms were installed at 180 feet (55 metres), 196 feet (60 metres), and 213 feet (65 metres) along its length to serve as drop-in points for the skater, before he eventually worked his way to the highest platform at 229 feet (70 metres).<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/01\/06\/vans-skateable-ramp-london-store\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/vans-store-london-andrea-caputo_dezeen_2364_col_sq2-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Man skating in Vans store\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Vans installs skateable ramp at refurbished central London store\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To reach the platforms, Dias was lowered from the building&#8217;s rooftop with rappelling equipment &#8220;numerous times&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>For his final attempt from the 229-foot platform, he reached a top speed of 64 miles per hour (103.8 kilometres), earning him the Guinness World Record of &#8220;the fastest speed skateboarding on a temporary quarter pipe&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2253275 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1759268289_365_redbull-building-drop-porto-alegre-brazil-centro-administrativo-fernando-ferrari-building-skate-ramp.jpeg\" alt=\"Brazil skate ramp\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>His descents ended in a protective wall made of foam cubes. Photo by Joerg Mitter<\/p>\n<p>The feat was also awarded &#8220;the tallest drop into a temporary quarter pipe&#8221; by the organisation.<\/p>\n<p>According to Red Bull, the building has been &#8220;the subject of constant speculation within Porto Alegre&#8217;s skate community for decades&#8221; before it was officially transformed into a skate ramp.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2253283 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1759268289_579_redbull-building-drop-porto-alegre-brazil-centro-administrativo-fernando-ferrari-building-skate-ramp.jpeg\" alt=\"Redbull skate ramp\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1577\"  \/>The government building was completed in 1987.
