{"id":96477,"date":"2025-10-01T08:18:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T08:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/96477\/"},"modified":"2025-10-01T08:18:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T08:18:09","slug":"ireland-weather-storm-amy-fears-grow-as-weather-maps-pinpoint-arrival-of-wild-winds-and-rain-deluge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/96477\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland weather: Storm Amy fears grow as weather maps pinpoint arrival of wild winds and rain deluge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Uncertainty surrounds the forecast for the coming weekend but there is a threat of the first named storm of the season heading our way<\/p>\n<p>08:33, 30 Sep 2025Updated 08:57, 30 Sep 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_ecwmf1.jpg\" alt=\"Weather maps showing strong gusts hitting the west of Ireland on Friday\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Weather maps showing strong gusts hitting the west of Ireland on Friday(Image: meteologix.com)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cHuge uncertainty\u201d surrounds the potential arrival of stormy <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/weather\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"weatherLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">weather<\/a> in Ireland this coming weekend as wind and heavy rain look set to dominate in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Alan O\u2019Reilly of Carlow Weather said in an update on Tuesday morning that there is still no consensus among the various weather models about exactly how bad it will get heading into the weekend, but there is agreement that it will be windy and it will be wet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">The model showing the \u201cworst possible outcome\u201d, the ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) model, indicates that there could be gusts approaching 200 km\/h in the west of Ireland on Friday, a day when <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/met-eireann\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Met \u00c9ireannLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Met \u00c9ireann<\/a> has forecast widespread heavy rain and \u201cstrong and gusty southerly winds\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Before that, up to 100mm of rain is expected to fall on Thursday ahead of another deluge on Friday; again, the west of Ireland is expected to be worst affected by the inclement weather headed our way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Ireland has not had any named storms since the new storm season started on September 1 and should there be cause to name one this weekend, it will be called Amy.<\/p>\n<p>Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">O\u2019Reilly said, however, that some weather models show the worst of the weather avoiding Ireland and that weather apps are likely to show big changes in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Met \u00c9ireann, for its part, has forecast conditions will become \u201crather unsettled as we move through the week\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\u201cRain will become more widespread with breezy or windy conditions developing too,\u201d the latest forecast reads, with the weather set to become gradually worse on Thursday and Friday ahead of a windy weekend that should at least be drier than the washout expected on those two days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Check out the Met \u00c9ireann forecast for the coming days in full below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Tuesday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Today will be dull and misty with hill fog. There will be scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle during the morning and early afternoon, then more persistent rain will spread across the country from the west during the late afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees with light to moderate southerly winds, freshening in the west during the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Cloudy with mist and hill fog on Tuesday night. Wet at first with widespread rain but the rain will move northwards, becoming lighter and patchier by morning. Lowest temperatures won&#8217;t fall below 13 to 15 degrees, in a moderate to fresh southerly breeze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Wednesday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Rather cloudy tomorrow but dry for most with scattered outbreaks of rain, most frequent in the west and north. Some brighter intervals possible, most likely towards the east. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 or 19 degrees with a moderate to fresh southerly breeze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Continuing cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards across the country on Wednesday night. Mild with temperatures not falling below 13 to 15 degrees, in a moderate to fresh southerly breeze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Thursday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">A rather wet and breezy day with widespread persistent rain, heaviest in the southwest and west. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees with a fresh southerly wind. Rain will clear eastwards early on Thursday night and it&#8217;ll become mainly dry with clear spells for a time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">However, more cloud will extend across the country from the southwest later in the night, bringing rain to the west and southwest by morning. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with light to moderate west to southwest winds, becoming southerly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Friday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Current indications suggest Friday will be a wet and windy day with widespread rain, heavy at times, accompanied by strong and gusty southerly winds.
