And although it is considered to be the most stable element, this could well change. Indeed, it seems to be slowly disappearing, which would have numerous consequences.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">It is important to note that this structure was supposed to form a planet during the formation of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/Auroras-have-been-discovered-on-a-planet-outside-the-solar-system-that-has-no-stars.1127928.0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">solar system<\/a>. However, this did not happen because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/This-probe-was-sent-into-space-to-discover-life-on-the-moons-of-Jupiter.1089155.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jupiter<\/a> exerted too much gravity for this planet to form. And although this asteroid belt is massive, it is gradually losing mass.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Thus, a team of scientists from the astronomy department at the <a href=\"https:\/\/udelar.edu.uy\/portal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Universidad de la Rep\u00fablica in Uruguay<\/a> wanted to find out how quickly this structure was disappearing. And after performing various calculations, the astronomers estimated that this asteroid belt loses 0,0088% of its active mass per million years.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Going into more detail, there are two main reasons that explain this phenomenon. It must be said that 80% of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/NASA-wants-to-blow-up-this-asteroid-with-a-nuclear-charge-before-it-reaches-the-Moon.1126602.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">asteroids<\/a> collide with each other and are transformed into dust under the force of the impact. As for the others, they are ejected towards regions of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/This-Harvard-physicist-believes-that-the-object-crossing-our-solar-system-is-an-alien-probe.1068403.0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">solar system<\/a> where gravity is unstable, but also towards certain planets such as Earth, Mercury, Mars or Jupiter.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">But the gradual disappearance of the asteroid belt could also reduce the risk of collisions between celestial bodies and planets <a href=\"http:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/This-asteroid-measuring-several-hundred-metres-passed-close-to-the-Earth.1119008.0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">such as Earth<\/a>.
