{"id":98068,"date":"2025-10-02T00:56:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T00:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/98068\/"},"modified":"2025-10-02T00:56:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T00:56:07","slug":"sk-hynix-shares-hit-multidecade-highs-samsung-also-surges-as-chipmakers-partner-with-openai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/98068\/","title":{"rendered":"SK Hynix shares hit multidecade highs, Samsung also surges as chipmakers partner with OpenAI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Headquarters of Samsung in Mountain View, California, on October 28, 2018. <\/p>\n<p>Smith Collection\/gado | Archive Photos | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Shares of South Korean chip heavyweights Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix surged Thursday, a day after the two companies partnered with artificial-intelligence major OpenAI as part of the U.S. firm&#8217;s Stargate initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Samsung hit their their highest since January 2021, rising over 4%, while SK Hynix stock surged more than 9% to hit its highest since 2000.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI said in a statement that this partnership will &#8220;focus on increasing the supply of advanced memory chips essential for next-generation AI and expanding data center capacity in Korea.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ChatGPT-maker said the two chipmakers plan to scale up production of advanced memory chips, which are critical to power its AI models.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement came as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with South Korean president Lee Jae Myung in Seoul, and the top leaders at Samsung and SK Hynix.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, SK Hynix <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/12\/sk-hynix-hbm4-chips-nvidia-samsung-micron.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">had announced<\/a> that it was ready to mass-produce its next-generation high-bandwidth memory chips, cementing its leading position in the AI value chain.<\/p>\n<p>HBM is a type of memory that is used in chipsets for artificial-intelligence computing, including in chips from\u00a0global AI giant Nvidia \u2014 a major client of SK Hynix.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>HBM4 chips are expected to be the main AI memory chip needed for Nvidia&#8217;s next-generation Rubin architecture \u2014 a more powerful AI chip for global data centers.<\/p>\n<p>SK Hynix has been a main chip supplier to Nvidia, while rival Samsung has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesskorea.co.kr\/news\/articleView.html?idxno=249962\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reportedly\u00a0<\/a>been working to get its HBM4 chips certified by Nvidia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 This is breaking news, please check back for updates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Headquarters of Samsung in Mountain View, California, on October 28, 2018.
