An MEP for Ireland South says news of a new investor for Waterford Airport is the “turbo charge” which the facility needs.<\/p>\n
Fianna F\u00e1il MEP Cynthia N\u00ed Mhurch\u00fa says she is thrilled and enthusiastic with the news about American investment for Waterford Airport.<\/p>\n
As reported on WLR, a\u00a0new proposal will be presented to councillors next week<\/a>, involving a fresh American investor stepping in to replace the Comer Brothers.<\/p>\n The plan outlines major structural changes.<\/p>\n “This news of American investment for Waterford Airport is exciting for Ireland South – and particularly the South East, and shows the business belief and commitment to the region,” says Cynthia N\u00ed Mhurch\u00fa.<\/p>\n She pledged to continue to advocate for government support and investment at Waterford Airport, and to the infrastructure around it and described the news overnight of the airport\u2019s fresh investment as the \u201cturbo charge\u201d needed to ensure a bright future for the South East in terms of business investment and tourism.<\/p>\n SETU partnership<\/p>\n Cynthia N\u00ed Mhurch\u00fa pointed out that SETU formed a strategic partnership with Waterford Airport also earlier this year by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) with Waterford Airport to develop a National Aerospace Academy, specialising in Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs).<\/p>\n The MOU is a collaboration that will support the growing offshore sector in the South East of Ireland, fostering climate-focused research capabilities and further strengthening Ireland\u2019s aerospace ecosystem.<\/p>\n Cynthia N\u00ed Mhurch\u00fa, emphasised the impact of building on these developments, saying:\u00a0\u201cIreland is a global leader in aviation and aerospace. SETU\u2019s partnership and collaboration with Waterford Airport and its newly achieved EASA compliance, combined with its outstanding academic training via its aerospace programmes, ensures our region will continue to drive innovation in this sector.
