Beginning on Thursday, the time required to reach a shelter from the onset of a siren will be extended for several communities in northern Israel, the IDF announced.
For 46 communities, the siren time will be extended from 30 to 45 seconds. For another three communities, it will be extended to a full minute.
“The move is part of an orderly, responsible process based on accumulated experience,” the IDF’s Home Front Command Chief Maj.-Gen. Shay Klepper stated. “The extension of the times is intended to enable optimal preparation in times of emergency, thereby strengthening the level of security and protecting the lives of residents.”
Several weeks ago, sirens sounded in northern Israel after a UAV from Lebanon was intercepted before crossing into Israeli territory, in what the IDF said was a violation of the ongoing ceasefire.
Since then, more sirens have occured in northern communities, as Hezbollah continues to test the ceasefire while attacking Israeli troops.
