Lebanon County orchard closes up shop for the season after losing fruit crops
LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — As crops are feeling the impact of the unusual cold April temperatures this year, a Lebanon County orchard announced Thursday it was closing up shop for the rest of the season.
Honey Bear Orchards, located off Thompson Avenue in Lebanon, lost all of its fruit crops after temperatures dipped to a low of 24 degrees overnight Monday, April 20, according to a Facebook post.
Midstate farmers still feel sting of late April freeze
Despite the orchard closing, hopes remain high for next spring.
“We have never in our 40+ years of growing fruit experienced a freeze of this magnitude. But farmers are a resilient bunch, and come next Spring, we will give it another try,” the orchard wrote.
