Iranian forces have detained a Barbados-flagged tanker in the Gulf of Oman.

The IRGC Navy seized the 72,768 DWT tanker Ocean Koi in the Gulf of Oman on Friday, state-backed news agency Tasnim reported.

The tanker was “trying to harm and disrupt the oil export and the interests of the Iranian nation,” according to the report.

The tanker, owned by Marshall Islands-based Ocean Kudos Shipping Co Ltd, was sanctioned by the US in February.

The ship “has transported millions of barrels of Iranian high sulfur fuel oil (HSFO) and condensate since May 2025,” the US Department of the Treasury said at the time.

“The Ocean Koi has operated as part of the Iranian shadow fleet since at least 2020.”
