Syria launched a trial of electronic payments using Mastercard and Visa on May 9, more than 15 years after the use of the cards was discontinued, local media said.
The trial was launched at a Damascus event held by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The ministry said it was a “step that opens Syria into the global digital payment system, and promotes the transformation towards financial inclusion.”
