HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) — Sen. Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican, asked President Donald Trump on Sunday to consider “changing course” on his path to secure peace with Iran.

The lawmaker said in a social media post that Tehran’s concerning behavior over the past several weeks has spurred the need for an expanded military operation in the region. The U.S. escorted American ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for Gulf oil, in a “Project Freedom” earlier this month before Iran launched attacks nearby.

Washington and Tehran have since been unable to agree on a deal to reopen the strait, which has been shut down since the war’s start, and end the fighting.

“Between their constant attacks on international shipping, the persistent attacks on our Middle Eastern allies and now a totally unacceptable response to America’s diplomatic proposal, it is in my view, time to consider changing course,” Graham wrote on X. “Project Freedom Plus sounds pretty good right about now.”

It’s unclear how Iran responded to the U.S.’s recent proposal to end the war. Tehran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said in a statement on Friday, though, that Iranians never fold under pressure, despite “reckless” U.S. actions.

“Every time a diplomatic solution is on the table, the U.S. opts for a reckless military adventure. Is it a crude pressure tactic? Or the result of a spoiler once again duping POTUS into another quagmire?” Araghchi wrote.
