Manheim Township secured a 2-0 victory over Lampeter-Strasburg in extra innings Monday night to win the Lancaster-Lebanon League championship after weather postponed Saturday’s matchup. The game was a pitchers’ duel throughout, remaining scoreless through six innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Brayden Hart of Lampeter-Strasburg laid down a bunt but was thrown out at first base. The game went into extra innings, and in the top of the ninth, Manheim Township’s Grant Wilson laid down a bunt, allowing Logan Garman to be called safe at the plate, giving Township a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Jacob Carasco hit a chopper that split the right side of the infield, bringing in another run to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the ninth, Lampeter-Strasburg had runners on first and third with one out. However, Cole Shehan struck out, and Carasco threw out the runner at second base to end the game. The Blue Streaks held on for the 2-0 win in extras, marking their third Lancaster-Lebanon League title in the last five years. “This is special. They’re a great group of kids. For us to do this for the third time in the last few years is special. Our coaching staff puts a lot of time into it. We have great parents, we have great kids that work hard and do the right things on and off the field,” Manheim Township head coach Matt Kirchoff said.The District Three tournament begins Friday, bringing more baseball action to the Susquehanna Valley.
