Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has accused Kuwait of attacking an Iranian boat in the Persian Gulf and detaining four Iranian citizens. In a post on social media platform X, he described the incident as an “illegal act” and demanded the immediate release of those detained.

Araghchi claimed the incident was part of an attempt to “sow discord” and said it occurred near an island allegedly used by the United States for operations against Iran. He warned that Iran reserves the right to respond to what it considers unlawful actions.

Iran’s state broadcaster Press TV reported that Kuwaiti territory has previously been used as a platform for US military actions against Iran during regional conflicts. It also claimed that Iran had previously responded to such developments by targeting American bases in Kuwait, further escalating rhetoric around the issue.

Call for expulsion of foreign forces

Press TV also cited commentary suggesting Kuwait should reconsider the presence of US forces on its territory to avoid future retaliatory actions. These remarks come amid heightened tensions in the wider Persian Gulf region.

The diplomatic dispute comes amid broader regional instability involving Iran, the United States, Israel, and neighbouring Gulf countries. Separate reports referenced by Iranian media highlighted statements of solidarity from Yemen and ongoing political friction involving regional military activity.

While accusations and counter-accusations continue, the situation reflects growing diplomatic strain in the Persian Gulf. Iran has maintained its position that it will respond to actions it considers hostile, while Kuwait has not publicly detailed its response to the allegations.
