This has been a dream season for Northern Lebanon’s baseball team. The Vikings have taken it somewhere they’ve never been before.
Top-seeded Northern Lebanon knocked off No. 4 Boiling Springs 6-4 in the District 3 Class 4A semifinals at Fredericksburg Thursday.
Andrew Via went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Owen Fahringer drove in two runs to lead the Vikings.
Northern Lebanon (23-1) has advanced to the district championship game for the first time. It will take on either No. 7 Big Spring or No. 3 East Pennsboro in the final at Penn Medicine Park Monday at 1:15 p.m.
Blake Burdick and Aidan Long combined to pitch seven innings for the Section 4 champs. They allowed two earned runs.
Northern Lebanon rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2. Ryan Clemmer’s RBI single in the third inning put the Vikings ahead 4-3. Fahringer’s two-run single in the sixth provided some insurance.
Boiling Springs (15-5) made it interesting in the seventh. The Bubblers cut the three-run deficit to 6-4 on Timmy George’s RBI single. Long got Cody Schaffer to ground into a fielder’s choice to end it.
Northern Lebanon, which has clinched a spot in the PIAA tournament, lost in the semifinals in 2006 and 2023. The Vikings had five district wins in school history before making this run.
