The conflict between Israel and Iran seems to be developing not only in the military field, but also on the information and propaganda front.
Conflicting reports published by Iranian and international media have raised questions about internal political stability in Tehran and the role of President Masoud Pezeshkian in state decision-making.
According to a report published by the Jerusalem Post, citing Iranian opposition media outlet Iran International, President Masoud Pezeshkian has allegedly sent a resignation letter to the office of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
In the letter, according to anonymous sources cited by the media, the president claims that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has taken effective control of a large part of the state administration, while he and other senior officials have been excluded from key decision-making processes.
Sources claim that Pezeshkian has argued that, under the current circumstances, he is no longer able to effectively exercise the duties of president and has therefore requested the acceptance of his resignation.
However, just a few hours later, Iran International itself reported that the Iranian news agency Tasnim, close to the Revolutionary Guard, had categorically denied the news. Citing a government source, Tasnim stated that President Pezeshkian has not resigned and continues to carry out his duties normally.
According to anonymous sources cited by Iran International, tensions between the president and the IRGC leadership are related to the way the war has been managed and its consequences on the Iranian economy. The sources claim that the disagreements focus on the impact of the conflict on the standard of living of citizens, increasing economic pressure and limiting the role of civilian institutions in decision-making.
The report comes at a time when speculation about the internal situation in Iran has increased. In recent days, the American network CBS reported, citing American officials, that Mojtaba Khamenei is in a secret location with very limited access to the outside world.
According to the report, communication with him is carried out through a network of intermediaries and messengers, while even senior Iranian officials do not have direct information about his whereabouts.
So far, Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed either the reports of a possible resignation of Pezeshkian or the claims regarding the whereabouts or isolation of Mojtaba Khamenei.
