WASHINGTON (TNND) — The U.S. military said it shot down four Iranian attack drones that were launched towards the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. The U.S. claims the drones “posed an immediate threat” to shipping traffic in the international waterway,

In a social media post to X, U.S. Central Command wrote that the attacks were “self-defense.” As part of the response, they also struck some of the Islamic Republic’s coastal surveillance radar sites.

The attack drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic. U.S. forces subsequently struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island to defend against further attacks,” CENTCOM wrote.

The U.S. military continues to enforce a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. The status of negotiations on the conflict with Iran remains in limbo as back-and-forth attacks pose a risk to the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran.

Earlier this week, Iranian drones damaged a passenger terminal at Kuwait’s main airport, killing one person and wounding dozens.

Despite this, President Donald Trump told reporters the situation with Iran was going “quite well.”

“We’re going to come out of Iran very quickly and it’s going to be very strong one way or the other, whether it’s a piece of paper or the very tough way,” Trump said at a round table event with farmers in Wisconsin. “The very tough way is maybe the easier way, but we’re going to come out, and your fertilizer prices are going to go way down, just like they were four months ago.”

Trump said the Iranians still have 21% to 22% of their missiles.

The Trump administration also helped broker a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon earlier this week. However, the deal fell through when the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group rejected the agreement.

Israeli military on Friday struck multiple parts of southern Lebanon and issued evacuation warnings for nine villages. The strikes also killed nine people in six locations in southern Lebanon, the state news agency reported.

Fighting in Lebanon continues to threaten an end to the war as Iran asks for an end to any conflict in the region.
