Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Representatives from the World Bank renewed on Sunday the bank’s support for the Iraqi government’s financial and economic reform objectives.
The remarks took place during the meeting of the World Bank Division Director for the Middle East Department, Jean-Christophe Carret, and the Country Manager, Emanuel Salinas Munoz, with the Iraqi Finance Minister, Faleh Sari.
The World Bank delegation also reaffirmed its commitment to providing technical assistance to Iraq to improve financial stability and promote long-term development, according to a statement released by the Finance Ministry.
The meeting addressed prospects for technical and institutional cooperation, as well as assistance for Iraq’s financial and economic reform initiatives.
The group discussed cooperation with the World Bank to provide technical and advisory assistance for Iraq’s next general budget.
This assistance seeks to improve the effectiveness of financial planning, analyze expenditure priorities, and strengthen fiscal sustainability amid current economic changes.
Sari stated that the Ministry of Finance aims to adopt financial reforms that would improve financial management, enhance non-oil income, and modernize banking, tax, and customs systems in accordance with the government’s agenda.
According to Sari, Iraq intends to benefit from the World Bank’s expertise and technical assistance, notably in the areas of institutional capacity building, financial policy planning, development support, and investment promotion.
