CAMDENTON, Mo. (KY3) -A 31-year-old man from Lebanon drowned in the Niangua River Wednesday afternoon after becoming trapped in a low head dam.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the man went into the water around 2:15 near the Tunnel Dam Power Plant southwest of Camdenton.

Southwest Camden Fire District and Mid-County Fire Protection District crews were dispatched to the remote location for a missing person in the water. Units from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Camden County Sheriff’s Office and Mercy EMS also responded to the area.

The man had been removed from the river when crews arrived, and CPR was in progress. Medical personnel attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Camden County Medical Examiner.

The identity of the victim is being withheld.

This is the fifth drowning in central Missouri so far this year and the fifth water-related incident of 2026 in the Southwest Camden Fire Protection District service area.
