A sudden public claim about an imminent Iran deal has prompted denials from Tehran, raising fresh uncertainty over whether negotiators can finalize remaining provisions in time.
Iran expressed doubts about the statement by US President Donald Trump about signing a peace agreement with Washington as early as this Sunday. According to Trump, the deal with Iran is scheduled to be signed tomorrow, and traffic through the Strait of Hormuz will also be resumed.
The Iranian side effectively rebutted the White House’s statement. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in social media posts, rejected the possibility of signing the document on Sunday and criticized the “unusual persistence” of the US president regarding this exact date.
“The memorandum of understanding is not yet ready for signing, and Trump’s announcement of the agreement was made despite the Iranian negotiators indicating that the document remains unagreed. The statement also asserts that signing on Sunday ‘will definitely not happen’.”

Official Positions and Expectations for Negotiations
The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Bagai, also expressed doubts about the timeline. He said that sealing a deal within the next 24 hours is unlikely, as the parties are still discussing a number of unresolved issues.
However, both sides are eager to move forward: if the memorandum is signed, Washington and Tehran could begin a new 60-day phase of negotiations on implementing the future agreement.
The parties also declined an in-person ceremony; instead, the possibility of electronic signing of the document is being considered to avoid logistical difficulties and potential delays in the negotiation process.
Despite varying scope and pace of discussions, both sides confirm that they are nearing the final stage of negotiations and hope for a final agreement on the document text.
