LEBANON, Tenn. (WSMV) – Leaders in Lebanon are taking a closer look at what it could take to build the city’s next wastewater treatment plant.
The Lebanon Waste Water Treatment Plant Site Selection Committee spoke to a packed room Monday night about where that site should go. They also reviewed detailed evaluations of potential sites.
Wilson County Commissioners have voted to formally oppose putting that plant anywhere outside of the city limit.
City officials say they’ll continue evaluating each potential site based on cost, existing infrastructure, environmental impact and its ability to accommodate the city’s rapid growth.
People at that wastewater meeting said they hope council members take their time making a decision.
“I underestimated the potential reach of the city because now here I stand before you to ask you not to encroach on us,” one resident said during the meeting. “I love our community, love it, and I don’t want to see it become industrialized, and I don’t want to raise my children in the shadows of a sewage treatment facility.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, there is no scheduled time when the committee will meet next.
