Israeli sources have said that “stubborn” talks are underway with the United States over the continued deployment of Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.
Al Jazeera reported on Thursday, June 18, that the claim was made by an Israeli official close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to the report, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Israel does not intend to back down from its position regarding the occupation of Lebanon.
Moshe Saada, a lawmaker from Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party, urged the prime minister to take a harder line with the US over Lebanon.
This comes as Iran has warned that any Israeli attack on Lebanon would be considered a violation of the agreement with the United States.
