Lebanon Fire District crews battled three major fires over a 24-hour period that burned about 54 acres combined.
According to Lebanon Fire District, the first fire was quickly contained and put out by two responding units. The fire was stopped before it could spread further.
The second fire proved more difficult to fight. Crews saw a large column of smoke while heading to the scene, prompting officials to upgrade the response to a second alarm before the first unit even arrived. Brownsville Fire, Halsey/Shedd Fire and Tangent Fire all responded to help Lebanon Fire District. Local farmers brought water trucks and ripper discs to help create containment lines and stop the fire from spreading.
Later that shift, crews were called to a third fire. Officials upgraded the response to a second alarm before the Incident Commander reached the scene because of what they could see. Once the Incident Commander arrived and assessed the situation, the response was immediately upgraded to a third alarm. Albany Fire, Brownsville Fire, Halsey/Shedd Fire, Tangent Fire, Scio Fire and Sweet Home Fire all joined Lebanon Fire District to fight the flames. Farmers again stepped in with water trucks and ripper discs to support firefighters working to contain the fire.
Lebanon Fire District thanked all the agencies and farmers who helped during the fires. Their quick response and teamwork were key to managing all three incidents successfully.
