WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WEYI) — The mayor of the city where the West Bloomfield synagogue attacker was a resident has released information on 41-year-old Ayman Mohamad Ghazali’s family.

Ghazali, who was born in Lebanon, lost several family members in an attack Israel made on Lebanon earlier this year, according to Dearborn Heights Mayor Mo Baydoun.

The Department of Homeland Security says that Ghazali came to the U.S. in 2011 on an IR1 immigrant visa as the spouse of a U.S. citizen.
He was then granted U.S. citizenship in 2016.
Federal investigators have called Thursday’s incident at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township an act of violence targeting the Jewish community.
Thirty first responders had to be treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation after the attack.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says that thankfully, no teachers or children at the synagogue’s school were injured.
