A crowd gathered at Lebanon Station on Tuesday afternoon to watch Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, make a scheduled stop.
The locomotive arrived at the station, at 250 N. Eighth St. in Lebanon, as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
Big Boy No. 4014 arrived in Lebanon at 1:30 p.m. and departed around 2:15 p.m., according to Union Pacific’s schedule.
Big Boy No. 4014 makes whistle stop in Lebanon, PA
Before arriving in Lebanon, Big Boy No. 4014 had departed Cheyenne, Wyoming, on May 25 and traveled through the Midwest and Northeast. The tour is scheduled to end July 29 in Cheyenne.

The locomotive is one of eight remaining Big Boys and the only one still in operation, according to Union Pacific. The massive locomotives were built to haul heavy equipment in support of the war effort during World War II and typically operated between Ogden, Utah, and Cheyenne, Wyoming.
