Members of The BAAAhd Girls/BAAAhd Company Sheep to Shawl team will be participating in the Lebanon Area Fair Shear to Shawl competition on Sunday, July 26.
The competition starts at 3 p.m. in North Hall. During the competition, the team has 2.5 to flick, spin, ply,and weave a shawl starting from the raw fleece of a Romney sheep. Following the completion of the competition, the shawls will be auctioned off at 7 p.m. in the Pavilion.
The event is being arranged through the Lebanon Area Fair Board of Directors at the urging of Michele Vodik, a 4-H leader in Lebanon County and member of The BAAAhd Girls/BAAAhd Company Sheep to Shawl team. The team, based out of the Walk In Art Center in Schuylkill Haven, consists of fiber artists from Lebanon, Berks, Lehigh, Northampton and Schuylkill counties. To celebrate the nation’s milestone, the shawl will be themed around the patriotic song “America the Beautiful,” honoring Pennsylvania as the “Keystone of the Beauty of America.”
