Iranian state television reported that the burial ceremony for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, which was expected to take place Thursday morning in the city of Mashhad, has been postponed.
Larger than expected crowds that gathered in Iraq’s Najaf and Karbala delayed the funeral procession on Wednesday, News.Az reports, citing Al Jazeera.
The ceremony in Mashhad – Khamenei’s birthplace – is now scheduled at 14:30 local time (11:00 GMT).
