PHOTOS: A brush fire burned just over an acre along the South Santiam River in Lebanon on Sunday evening, according to the fire department.
Just after 5 p.m., crews with the Lebanon Fire District were sent to the area of Brewster Road and East Grant Street where a fire had started in trees about 75 feet in from the river.
Crews used a portable pump to attack the fire with water directly from the river and the Oregon Department of Forestry brought a dozer to the fire to build a containment line around the fire to help prevent further spread. Firefighters were at the scene for almost three hours on Sunday, working to ensure all hot spots were out.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Firefighters asked people to use extreme caution due to the hot, dry, and windy weather conditions.
“Even a small spark from equipment, vehicles, discarded smoking materials, or recreational activities can quickly become a fast-moving wildfire,” Lebanon Fire District said.
