As a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the Azerbaijani government, a total of 16 Azerbaijani citizens, including seven women and nine children, were repatriated to the country from the Syrian Arab Republic on July 18–19 of this year.
The first step was to establish the whereabouts, identities, and Azerbaijani citizenship of the repatriates, News.Az reports, citing AZERTAC.
Members of the Working Group, comprising state agencies responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens affected by crisis situations abroad, were dispatched to Syria, where the repatriates underwent initial medical and psychological examinations.
Subsequently, through coordination carried out by Azerbaijan’s embassies in Syria and Türkiye, as well as the Consulate General in Istanbul, the citizens were provided with emergency travel certificates and airline tickets and were brought back to Azerbaijan.
Relevant measures are planned to support the repatriates’ social rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
The Azerbaijani government will continue taking the necessary measures to repatriate Azerbaijani citizens who have become victims of armed conflicts in foreign countries.
