COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Military and government officials on Wednesday will conduct the dignified transfer of Ohio’s three airmen who were among six killed in an air fueling crash in Iraq last week.
Gov. Mike DeWine said he and his wife, Fran, will travel to Dover Air Force Base along with senior staff from the Ohio National Guard to pay respects to Capt. Seth Koval, of Mooresville, Indiana, Capt. Curtis Angst, Wilmington, Ohio, and Master Sgt. Tyler Simmons, of Columbus, Ohio.
The three were assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing out of Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus. They, along with three members of the 6th Air Refueling Wing from MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, were killed when a KC-135 refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq while supporting Operation Epic Fury.
Simmons was posthumously promoted by Ohio’s Adjutant General from the rank of technical sergeant, DeWine said.
Details on the transfer time weren’t immediately available.
