It’s a big day for voters in several states on Tuesday, with closely watched primaries in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Connecticut and Vermont, as well as House primaries in Alabama.
South Carolina Republicans also head to the polls to see who will replace the late Sen. Lindsey Graham on the ballot in November. There are 10 candidates running in the special election, including his sister, Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.), who has filled the seat until the end of the term in January, Reps. Ralph Norman and Russell Fry (R-S.C.), former Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and businessman Mark Lynch. Polls closed at 7 p.m. EDT.
President Trump is in Geneva, Ohio, for the Patriot Games finale, a national athletic competition for high schoolers in honor of America’s 250th.
Earlier Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz won’t be reopened until the U.S. meets its conditions, after Trump said he wants compensation from Iran “for all of the people that they have killed” in the past.
He told reporters that Iran has “astonished the whole world” in the war against the United States and Israel, proving “that it is a tough and invincible power,” The Associated Press reported.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military fired on a Panama-flagged cargo ship that a U.S. official told the Wall Street Journal was trying to run the American blockade of the waterway.
Amid this, reports late Monday detailed how Trump evaded a potential threat from Iran while departing Turkey last month. According to the Washington Post, the president secretly traveled in an unmarked military plane to the U.K. The White House did not directly address the issue when asked.
