Iraq has seized 20 locally manufactured drones and arrested four people suspected of attempting to traffic them, the Interior Ministry said.

The suspects were detained after security forces seized the drones during an operation, Al Jazeera reported.

“During interrogation, they confessed to possessing these drones for the purpose of trafficking them,” the ministry said in a statement.

The seizure comes as Baghdad steps up efforts to strengthen security and prevent its territory and airspace from being used to launch attacks against neighboring countries.

The Iraqi government has repeatedly stressed its commitment to preventing activities that could threaten neighboring states or draw Iraq into regional conflicts.
