The crackdown comes after a sharp rise in Israel’s road-death toll, with 459 people killed in road accidents last year.
Israel’s road fatality rate was almost twice that of the UK in 2025, at 4.5 deaths per 100,000 people compared with 2.3.
“Not a single shekel from these fines goes to us,” said Chief Superintendent Shimi Marciano of the Israel Police Traffic Division. He said the move was aimed solely at making Israel’s roads safer.
The National Road Safety Authority has identified speeding, failure to yield, red-light violations and unsafe lane changes among the leading contributors to fatal and serious crashes.
