Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Two explosive-laden drones launched from Iranian territory targeted on Monday Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s private office and the home of a top intelligence official.
According to official briefings from the Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Directorate, the precise attacks resulted in no casualties or injuries.
The attack’s major targets were Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s private office and the house of the director of the Parastin Security and Intelligence Agency, according to Reuters.
The strikes took place in Erbil province’s Pirmam area, which is around 30 kilometers north of the capital.
Security personnel recognized the drone as an Iranian-designed “Hadid-110” kamikaze drone carrying explosive payloads.
Barzani condemned the attack in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), describing it as illegitimate and unacceptable. He also cautioned that the strike was a dangerous escalation that posed a direct threat to Iraqi Kurdistan’s security and stability.
While Tehran and Iran-backed armed groups have previously accused Iraqi Kurdistan of hosting hostile Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, the authorities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq have always denied using their territory to threaten neighboring nations.
The incident represents a serious escalation of the region’s ongoing cross-border drone and missile strikes on essential infrastructure and residential areas.
