LEBANON, Ore. – Lebanon Fire District firefighters put out a fire at a pole barn shop on the 38000 block of Lawrence Drive on Saturday evening, according to the Lebanon Fire District.
Lebanon Fire District officials said that crews were first called to River Drive around 8:54 p.m. on Aug. 15, but the caller updated the location while firefighters were on their way. When the Battalion Chief arrived, he found light smoke coming from the eaves of the pole barn shop. The property owner was trying to put out the fire with a garden hose when the Battalion Chief walked around the building. Firefighters quickly set up hoses and sprayed water inside the structure where the fire was burning. Crews had the fire under control within moments. They stayed on scene for about an hour to finish cleanup work. No firefighters were hurt, but fire medics checked the property owner for a minor burn on his hand. Lebanon’s Deputy Fire Marshal started investigating the fire shortly after it was put out and returned the next day for follow-up.
Lebanon firefighters are reminding the community about the high fire danger across Linn County and the state. A countywide burn ban is currently in effect, which includes all backyard piles, barrel burning, charcoal fires and recreational fires.
The restrictions will stay in place until the Linn County Fire Defense Board and Oregon Department of Forestry lift them, which may not happen until significant rains arrive.
