Questioning President Trump over current progress of the deal to end the Iran War
President Trump says Iran “wants to make a deal” to end its nuclear program, but that it doesn’t meet his standards, as a Memorandum of Understanding expires Monday.
A framework agreement aimed at ending the war between the US and Iran is expiring on Monday, with no end to the conflict in sight.
The memorandum of understanding was signed back in June. It aimed to end the war while kick-starting a 60-day negotiating period on a final deal to dismantle Iran’s nuclear program.
Washington Correspondent Jackie DeFusco asked Trump directly if there has been any progress towards making a final deal during that time period.
The president responded, “Well they want to make a deal, but they’re not gonna make the kind of deal I feel is necessary. Look, we’re in there for one reason, Iran can not have a nuclear weapon.”

Trump also defended his decision to scale back joint military trainings with South Korea, citing a lack of help during the Iran War, along with his close relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
DeFusco asked the president about concerns that he is prioritizing the interests of American adversaries like North Korea over long-time partners like South Korea.
Trump said, “I’m making it much safer, you see, I’m actually making it much safer. Kim Jong Un has always treated me with great respect. We’ve met on numerous occasions actually,” and added, “I understand him, he understands me. You’re doing war games. I get along with him. You know, he didn’t like Biden, he didn’t like Obama, he didn’t like anybody. But, I get along with him very well, so what I’m doing is making things safer.”
