CLOVERDALE — South Putnam won a delayed three-way girls’ golf match over North Central and Cloverdale Tuesday night.
Originally a dual between the Eagles and Clovers Monday and the Thunderbirds and Clovers Tuesday, considerable rain over the past week saw the Monday match rolled back into Tuesday evening at Clover Meadows.
South Putnam shot 248 while North Central came in at 267. Cloverdale was a golfer short of having a team score but Amanda Bradley did earn medalist honors for the Clovers with a round of 58.
Johnna Perkins led the Eagles with a round of 60, followed by Hadleigh Hutcheson on 62 and three rounds of 63 shot by Kloee Pastore, Emmie Haddon and Mollie Huber. Becca Patterson shot 64 while Bailey Patterson carded a 72.
“Course conditions were tough with a lot of thick grass while it was still wet in some areas,” South Putnam head coach Jill Nelson noted. “The girls struggled but were able to work through a lot of their frustration.”
Behind Bradley for the Clovers was Kylee Brock on 71 and Gracie Grey on 72.
Earlier in the season, Greencastle hosted North Putnam and Lebanon at Tiger Pointe GC the Tigers winning the match on 210 while the Cougars shot 237. The host Tiger Cubs did not have enough golfers for a team score.
Lebanon’s Lexi Mitchell and Mya Walters took co-medalist honors with rounds of 49, two shots better than Greencastle’s Jacey Call, who shot 51.
North Putnam was paced by Macy Burdine’s 55 with Lindsay Huffman shooting 59, Ellie Burdine carding a 60, Addie Burnicle shooting 63 and Natalie Grajewski shooting 64.
“This round was a good sounding board for our team,” North Putnam head coach Earl Hall said. “All five players had not seen this golf course before but we had some good scores all considering.
“The girls realized the importance of thinking through their shot instead of just hitting shots. We got better as the match went on figuring out strategies of where to put the ball by making the right swing with the right club.
“Our goal was to shoot 218 or less through the first five matches, though this is a tough course to start with on a balmy night,” Hall added.
Deasia Tyler shot 63 for the Tiger Cubs while Kennah Fox shot 70.
“We had a better night tonight,” Greencastle head coach Katie Bonnorant said. “We have a week of practice, so we will be focusing on a lot of fundamentals and improving our game.”
