Structural issues prompt year-long closure of West Lebanon bridge

  • August 20, 2026

WEST LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – Drivers in the Upper Valley should prepare for a year-long traffic detour, as a bridge replacement is less than a month away.

The 12A bridge in West Lebanon has significant structural issues and has been on the state’s replacement list for years.

The bridge connects one side of the city to Lebanon’s busy big-box store retail corridor. It also spans the railroad, which the city engineer says complicates the construction.

“We have to coordinate with the railroad on all the work we do, so it makes it sort of another reviewer in the process. They have been pretty good so far, especially during construction, and we are just working through the problems with them,” said Brian Vincent, Lebanon city engineer.

The bridge will be shut down Sept. 14 and closed to cars on a section of 12A for a year. A temporary pedestrian bridge will allow foot traffic to continue in the well-traveled area of the city.

Federal funds are expected to cover 80% of the $14.5 million project.
