In September 2025, Ali Haniyeh, a well-known contractor and industrialist in southern of Israel, bought a house for himself and his family in the affluent Be’er Sheva suburb of Omer. The move stirred a furor in the community: A rumor circulated in the local WhatsApp groups and social media to the effect that the buyer was a relative of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’ political bureau who had been assassinated over a year earlier by Israel in Tehran.
