Preliminary shipping data indicates that vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has declined in recent days.

Al Jazeera reported on Thursday, August 20, that the downward trend in maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has continued amid a deadlock in negotiations between Iran and the United States.

According to the report, data from maritime traffic tracking company Kpler shows that vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz did not increase on Wednesday.

Kpler data indicates that only nine commercial cargo vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday.

This comes as US President Donald Trump has claimed in recent days that the Strait of Hormuz is open and under US control.
