Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Deputy Oil Minister for Extraction Affairs Nasir Aziz confirmed on Monday that the gas recovery project at the Halfaya field in Maysan province is currently processing approximately 190 million standard cubic feet of associated gas per day.

The statement of Aziz followed a meeting with officials from PetroChina Halfaya, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) managing the major oil and gas field development project in Maysan, according to a statement released by the Iraqi Oil Ministry.

The meeting addressed the field’s current production status and future goals, with an emphasis on associated gas recovery projects and strategies to enhance cooperation between the two sides.

Aziz explained that the Halfaya gas processing project is designed with a capacity of 300 million standard cubic feet per day. He indicated that the produced quantities are used to provide fuel for power plants in the province, which supports the country’s electricity grid.

The Halfaya field is one of the largest oilfields in southern Iraq, with a daily production of approximately 400,000 barrels.

According to Aziz, the Oil Ministry continues its efforts to complete associated gas recovery projects from oilfields across the country, given their role in reducing gas flaring and enhancing energy security.

PetroChina Halfaya officials reaffirmed their company’s commitment to completing projects according to plans and schedules to boost production efficiency and optimize associated gas recovery.
