Iraqi security forces in Maysan have arrested 28 people and
dismantled eight drug distribution networks in a series of operations across
the southern province in recent days, the Directorate of Narcotics Affairs said
on Friday.
The suspects included a foreign national and a “highly
dangerous” Iraqi wanted in several other cases. Authorities also seized 7
kilograms of narcotics.
Earlier today, Iraq’s Al-Anbar Directorate for Narcotics
Affairs broke up a 50-member drug trafficking network, seizing more than 2.5 kg
of crystal methamphetamine and about 15,000 narcotic pills.
Since 2023, Baghdad has confiscated 16.8 tons of narcotics,
secured 380 death sentences and 150 life sentences, and issued 190
international arrest warrants in drug-related cases. Baghdad has also
established 16 rehabilitation centers for drug users, providing treatment to
about 9,500 people, with more than 8,000 completing their rehabilitation programs.
