Welcome to our live coverage of US politics and the Iran war.
Iran’s president has made the remarkable plea to “end the war today” while the world “acknowledges our victory” and “America is hated”.
But Masoud Pezeshkian’s speech on Friday, local time, seemed chiefly aimed at hardliners in Tehran, many of whom seem keen for the conflict to continue.
The President said there “some people who make comments … who have not experienced any suffering or hardship”.
The US Supreme Court has handed Donald Trump a big win allowing construction on his gargantuan White House ballroom/bunker to continue.
A federal court had earlier ruled he did not have permission for the build.
But on Friday, US time, the Supreme Court said construction could continue while they mulled over the issue.
The White House has claimed the building is already two thirds complete.
Elsewhere, discussions are said to have taken place in the Trump administration about stripping a new aircraft carrier of the name of a black World War II hero, who is credited with saving several lives, and instead name it after Donald Trump.
The ship – which is under construction – had been christened with the name USS Doris Miller in Mr Trump’s first term. Mr Miller fought at Pearl Harbor in 1941. But it’s been reported that internally the vessel is now being referred to by its hull number, a possible step in giving it an alternative name.
Mr Trump’s name has been added to an airport, some passports, National Park passes, his signature will be on bank notes and there has been an attempt to add his name to the Kennedy Centre.
It would be unprecedented to name a US naval vessel after a sitting US president.
