Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has dismissed Washington’s threats to punish countries engaging in trade with the Islamic Republic as mere “big talk”, saying Iran’s trading partners will not comply with US sanctions.
In a post on X on Monday, Qalibaf said Iran’s trading partners had informed Tehran that they would disregard the US threats entirely, Iran’s English-language Press TV reports.
“Iran’s trade partners have also announced to us, both through the media and by sending messages, that they regard these statements as utterly meaningless,” he wrote in the Farsi-language post.
Qalibaf also argued that the US economy had already suffered as a result of what he described as Washington’s war of aggression against Iran and said the United States could not afford to damage its relations with other countries over the issue.
“The Americans know that no one believes their big talk; the United States is not in a position economically to further restrict its relations with other countries,” he said.
In an English-language post on Sunday, Qalibaf mocked the US administration’s pledge to impose some of its harshest sanctions on the Islamic Republic, saying the US “war of aggression” against Iran had left Americans facing mounting economic difficulties.
He said the United States had been experiencing economic problems as a result of more than six months of pressure and aggression against Iran, including falling bond yields and a downturn in the US housing market.
“A frozen foreign policy delivers a frozen economy… The only thing still moving? The Iran boomerang,” Qalibaf said.
