Yousef Jabareen, chairman of Hadash and the Joint List, said that any support for the Eisenkot bloc would have to be based on what he described as “basic principles guaranteeing equality and rights for Arab society.”
In remarks quoted by the Arab-Israeli news site Al-Jarmak, Jabareen said he “opposes any agreement that perpetuates the occupation or ignores the issues facing Palestinian society in Israel.”
According to Jabareen, any agreement must include a clear plan for the development of Arab society. He also rejected cooperation with a coalition that does not offer genuine solutions to the violence and crime affecting Arab society.
Jabareen stressed that any political participation must be contingent on clear guarantees regarding equality, the development of Arab society and efforts to combat violence and crime, as well as a clear position against “settlements”, in his words.
In an interview with Al-Nas Radio several days ago, Jabareen criticized the approach of Ra’am chairman Mansour Abbas, who advocates joining a coalition in order to gain influence over government policy.
According to Jabareen, any “party that joins a coalition becomes bound by its guiding principles.” In response to a question, Jabareen did not rule out the possibility that the Joint List could provide a safety net for an alternative coalition that would bring down the right-wing government.
