Last week, Syria’s President Ahmad al-Sharaa achieved a very significant political victory, marking a transition from a struggle for his regime’s survival to an ability to reshape the internal organization of the country. The head of the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, announced the dismantling of the Kurdish military framework and approved its integration into the Syrian army, thus removing one of the most volatile stumbling blocks on al-Sharaa’s path to unify Syria under his leadership.
